Chapter 18: Networking
When interacting with potential clients, customers, partners, or investors, the last thing you want to do is come off as needy. It’s basically a universal turn off for everyone. Instead, find ways to provide value. Especially in the beginning, do not be afraid to do some free work for influential people. Play it off as a favor - chances are down the line it will be returned. If you provide value to somebody, they’re going to be far more likely to keep contacting you in the future than if you just ask them for things.
I’ve done a lot of free work over the years, and it generally pays off.
